Our Story

HOUSE OF RIVER is an Indo-French brand established in 2019 by Janaki Grover and Nili Shah, two school friends whose formative years were spent in diverse global cultural centers—San Francisco and Atlanta for one, and Bombay and Dubai for the other. Their early passion for crafting unique scent experiences laid the foundation for the brand’s rich olfactory identity.

Drawing on extensive experience in fields such as pharmaceutical manufacturing, fragrance development, and real estate, Janaki and Nili combined their diverse skill sets to create a brand that has quickly become a leading name in private label exports within its category.

Both founders are accomplished perfumer-alchemists, renowned for their innovative approach to botanical pairing. Janaki’s travels have deeply influenced her connection to scents, with each fragrance evoking a personal narrative—from the serene ambiance of Japan’s Sagano Bamboo Forest to the fresh, invigorating air near Baikal’s Northern Lake. These evocative experiences form the basis for creating new and memorable olfactory journeys.

Nili, recognized as the brand’s principal “nose,” brings a unique blend of traditional Indian sensibilities and contemporary design, material innovation, and craftsmanship to every formulation. In 2021, the duo expanded their vision by exploring alternative and traditional medicine, leading to the launch of their sub-label, CannaCalm. This venture introduced a portfolio of hemp-infused products that not only deliver remarkable benefits but also captivate the senses.

Today, HOUSE OF RIVER'S product portfolio includes scented candles, diffuser oils, , home sprays, aroma sticks, parfums and hemp-infused massage oils, lotions and creams.

With offices in Bombay, Dubai and Atlanta HOUSE OF RIVER continues to expand its global footprint, guiding the brand with visionary leadership and a commitment to excellence.
